Fifty riders from seven states and one Canadian Providence gathered for this years Cougar Prowl. Riders from Leadville, CO and Chicago, IL were in the running for the farthest traveled award until Earle Baxter from Ontario, Canada arrived and settle the issue. Rain threatened all day but held off until all but one rider had completed the ride.
The fifty mile ride had 29 starters with 28 completions. George Nixon, riding Abby, is off to another good year by placing first with a time of 5:23 and also receiving the Best Condition award. Junior Jesse Burton and his sponsor, Susan Young, were a scant 100 yards behind at the finish line after challenging George for the last three mile of the ride. Jesse recorded his career best crossing the finish line in a tie for second with Susan. The top ten was rounded out by Jim Wiseman, Dale Horst, Genie Wunderlich, Connie Farmer, Ginger Beason, Jonathan Beason and Jodi Hess-Schlup.
After an early Saturday morning ride, meeting manager Louise Burton sent the 34 limited distance riders out on the trail for their first 17 mile loop. FW Rustasha, ridden by Featherweight LeighAnn Howser, was first to reach pulse criteria after completing the 25 mile course. LW Kachina, ridden by Dana Evans, was awarded Best Condition Award for the ride. Stacy Crews, riding CC Pharlap, was the first junior to finish.
